Donkervoort D8 GT To Hit Europe Next Month

Donkervoort D8 GT To Hit Europe Next Month The Dutch specialty automaker, Donkervoort has announced that their latest car, the D8 GT based on the open-top RS model has entered production phase. It will go on sale for Europe in June 2008. The D8 GT was first premiered as a concept at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show and will be manufactured in Netherlands.

The new D8 GT has wing-doors and is powered by an Audi 1.8 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine which comes in various states of tuning from 180 to 270 hp horsepower. In comparison with the open D8 version, major changes have been done so that the D8 GT can be seen as a totally new car. The D8 GT comes with larger air intakes for better aerodynamics plus carbon fiber roof and doors to reduce weight. It rides on 17" light weight wheels while stopping power is provided by specially developed Tarox brakes loaded with new 6 piston alloy callipers and the larger 300mm discs.

The D8 GT is built on the same chassis as the standard D8 but the wheelbase for the D8 GT model has grown by 8 cm over the D8 due to the modified suspension. Special shock absorbers have also been introduced which allow a hydraulic ride height-adjustment and vary the stiffness of the damping in high and low frequencies.

Donkervoort will make only 50 DB GTs per year with each unit priced at 90,000 euro.
