The current Ford Taurus was unveiled in early 2007 as the 2008 Ford Five Hundred. It was then renamed to Taurus in an effort to take advantage of the nameplate's strong mindshare. The car was "facelifted" to give it more style than the original 2005 Five Hundred. Unfortunately, the move was not enough to boost sales or public perception of the model.source leftlane.
2010 Ford Taurus comes into view
The new Taurus will more than likely come with at least one version Ford's new turbocharged EcoBoost engines on board, with the V-6 probably the best bet as the base engine. Its platform may take longer to sort out. It could return on the D3 architecture or switch to the CD3 platform. If the Taurus abandons D3, however, that would leave only the Taurus X (which is rumored to be on the delete list) and Lincoln MKS on it, which is probably not enough volume to make it cost-effective.

Spy Shots: 2010 Ford Taurus... finally
The front end is far more dynamic than the current Taurus, with swept-back headlamps, a pointed fascia and the best application of the three-bar grille we've seen yet -- even if it does ape the last generation Lexus IS. The profile is handsome and distinctly Mondeo, a model that may, or may not, underpin the next Taurus.source autoblog.

The new turbocharged engine promises V8-like power with the efficiency of a four-cylinder. Big promises for sure, but even if it doesn't quite meet those goals, the 2010 Taurus should be one of the more powerful sedans in its class without sacrificing too much in the way of fuel mileage. Expect to see the official unveil of the 2010 Ford Taurus at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show next January. Sales should begin in the fall of 2009.
